Survivor Celebration - Inspiring and Empowering Cancer Survivors

I have had 2 mammos and 1 sonogram so far and am scheduled for a needle biopsy on 12/1. Since my hubby's first wife died from breast cancer, I'm not telling him about the biopsy until after I know the results. The dr even agreed. The radiologist and the GYN said they felt it was okay to wait til March to get another sonogram, that it wasn't jagged and not to worry. The surgeon on the other hand said since I've been on estrogen for many, many years, that gives me a greater risk and to get it done now just in case.
I am soon to be 69 and have numerous health problems, one of which is common variable immunodeficiency. Was told if I ever got a serious cancer (like this possibility), that it could be a real problem. A fella who has the same illness has had leukemia right alongside of this CVID, gets chemo frequently, etc. and was doing very well until recently. He's a few years older than I.
Anyone else have had to face this?

Hey Wilma,
Thanks for sharing! I think you should tell your husband but that is just my opinion. Don't you think he would want to know. I'm so sorry he lost his first wife to breast cancer. Hang in there, we will be praying for you. I think you should have everything you can done now and don't wait.

I've had 2 seperate needle biopsies, both were benign thank God. Don't wait, better safe than sorry!

Wilma,
I am glad 12/1 is right around the corner so you will not be in limbo on this. Sometimes I think the waiting is the worst part because you feel so helpless. Anyway, the news the radiologist gave you about not being jagged is great. I learned later the drs knew from the mammogram b/c the edges of my mass were jagged and that means "C". The needle biopsy can be a little bit uncomfortable and you will be sore and most likely bruised afterwards. I wish you all the best. Karen

Praise God it was only fibrocystic! I shall keep you in my prayers as you deal with the C. Yes it was a bit sore, only a little bruised, but I'm okay for 6 months when I get another sonogram. It was so far back near my chest wall, they had a devil of a time finding the exact place.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Now I pray you will be healed by the Master. Blessings - Wilma
