About Me:
So I was going on my merry way, loving life with my husband and kids when I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer.

I was having a little pain on my left side and my bowels were making funny sounds just before Emily was going off to college.
We took her up to school and got her settled and I knew things were not right. I had not gone to the bathroom in a week. I went to the ER in Chico and after several tests it was determined that I had a complete blockage of my descending colon and needed an emergency colon resection.

After returning home I had some chemo and then another surgery to remove two small tumors on my liver and my right ovary which was also tumor laden. At this point my markers were normal and I did six months of clean up chemo.

All was fine until Dec '08 when we discovered the other ovary was also cancerous. I then had cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC with Dr Sugarbaker in DC. They removed the tumor and re-resected (is that a word?) my colon and a few other parts I didn't need. I know, your thinking body parts a there for a reason and shouldn't be flippantly removed. In a perfect world yes. Ah but alas....it is not a perfect world. They also treated me with heated chemo for 90 minutes to my peritoneal cavity in this MOAS (mother of all surgeries).

So.....now they currently see no trace of cancer and I am doing more clean up chemo.

That's it in a nut shell. Thank you dear friends and family for all for your love and support. We really appreciate all of your kindness in word and deed.

Life is good!!

Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can. John Wesley

“AJ, I'm buying the first 100 for my ministry with the team. This is an excellent resource -- clear, applicable, well written! You and Vera have written one of the most significant and useful devotionals I've seen in a long time. Ravens players and coaches will love this tool for training camp! I'm excited to see it go to print and I'm honored to be a friend of one of the co-authors, a true champion indeed.”
