Profile Information

Survivor Status:
Survivor (In treatment or post treatment), Child of a Survivor (includes Adult Children of Survivors), Friend of a Survivor, Medical Professional
About Me:
i'm a vibrant, fun, adventurous, psychotherapist for over 38 yrs. who can also be a majorly stubborn and impossible person! in my photo, i'm the one on the left...dear friend rom over 40yrs, lu, is on the right, and we had theeee fun-est day in tieneman square the day this pix was taken! i went to my internist on 12/10/08 for over 30yrs for a routine pre-op for a major right foot surgery on 12/12/08. he found a lump in right breast. on 12/12/08 i had the foot surgery. on 1/12/09 i had needle biopsy. on 2/12/09 i had lumpectomy and nodal dissection. on 3/12/09 [to break the curse of the 12's, my foot brace was removed--thank you God!] and i enter the chemosphere on 3/27/09. i'm trying to be present in a zen buddhist sort of way, not scare myself to death, and am challenged by impatience and fear, every step of the way. i was wheel chair bound for 10 wks, and had breast surgery w/ my foot in a cast. the entire right side of my body is atrophied, and it's a long haul to "normal" phsyical activity, locomotion, etc.....and that's not factoring in chemo, or as nurse ann likes to refer to it, "therapy." i get appropriately sad, mad, happy, grateful [lots of times!], and COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED!!!! i forgot to mention that my internist, an incredibly wonderul man, went into oncology over 20yrs ago--i remained under his care as one of his "healthy" pts. what a MIRACLE to have HIM discover the lump, and the fact that i get to be w/ a team of professionals i've known and respected for such a long, long time! i'm still scared tho.
Inspirational Quote:
Everything will be ok in the end. If it’s not ok, then it’s not the end!
Anon. AA

We work in the dark
We do what we can
We give what we have
Our doubt is our passion and
Our passion is our task
The rest is the madness of art.
--Henry James

This is real. This is very real.
This is absolutely inescapable.
And we are utterly unprepared.
And we have nothing to offer but each other and our broken hearts.
And that will be enough.
--norman fischer

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

W.H. Auden in an article about advancing age. "Death is like the rumble of distant thunder at a picnic."

hope is the deep orientation of the human soul that can be held at the darkest times.
varlav havel

It happens all the time in heaven,
And some day
It will begin to happen
Again on earth--
That men and women...
Who give each other
Light,
Often will get down on their knees
And ....With tears in their eyes,
Will sincerely speak, saying,
"My dear,
How can I be more loving to you;
How can I be more
Kind?"

suffering is the result of insisting that something be other than it is.

Anxiety is always abt the future. Bring your mind to the present, to what is happening right now, and you can recognize anxiety as just another thought.

Realize that the feeling that we need fixing is predicted on the belief that we are broken. That belief is just another thought.

I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.
Thomas Edison

Thanksgiving comes to us out of the prehistoric dimness, universal to all ages and all faiths. At whatever straws we must grasp, there is always a time for gratitude and new beginnings.
Robert Moskin

“AJ, I'm buying the first 100 for my ministry with the team. This is an excellent resource -- clear, applicable, well written! You and Vera have written one of the most significant and useful devotionals I've seen in a long time. Ravens players and coaches will love this tool for training camp! I'm excited to see it go to print and I'm honored to be a friend of one of the co-authors, a true champion indeed.”
